Narita Tourist Guide (Inclusive Of Free Gift!)

ITEM: Tourist Guide Around Narita Airport (in English and French) aka Guide touristique des environs de l'aeroport de Narita

NUMBER OF PAGES: 46

CONDITION: Like new

USABILITY: Didn't try using it when I was in Narita because of lack of time, but I would trust the Japanese to create a good guide.

PRICE: RM50 (with FREE GIFT!)

THE STORY: The title is misleading. You'd think "Tourist Guide Around Narita Airport" would mean a book about how to get around the interiors of the airport. But it's really a guide for the area around the airport, ie. NARITA. Hence, "around Narita airport" isn't "around the INSIDE of the airport" but "around the OUTSIDE of the airport." It's got nice pictures and useful maps - 46 pages chockful of touristy goodness! And bilingual too!

I figured if you need a Narita tourist guide, then it would probably be your first trip to Tokyo, so I'll throw in a TOKYO SUBWAY GUIDE AND MAP for FREE! You only have to figure out how to read the map, because ... well, just look at it! Confusing as hell!

Expired Unopened Apple Juice

ITEM: Gabry's 100% PURE Apple Juice (Not from concentrate)

VOLUME: 200ml

CONDITION: Expired content, but bottle is in good condition. The liquid inside contains some visible residue.

USABILITY: Do not drink. Liquid can still be used for other non-consumption purposes, while bottle can be reused.

PRICE: RM20

THE STORY: I bought this and left it in the office for years, forgetting to drink it. The expiry date on the bottle cap says "5/01/04." So, yes it's pretty far off. I kept it anyway, because the bottle looks nice, and the golden liquid inside is pretty amazing, you must admit. Sometimes when I'm bored or stressed, I pick it up and look at the liquid and residue swirling inside. It's quite comforting, somewhat like watching fish in an aquarium, albeit cheaper.

THE STORY: I seriously can't remember where I bought this, but it might have been at some audio show where they were selling movie memorabilia and laserdiscs. This item has become very rare. A must-have for all Star Trek fans, or lovers of movie memorabilia.

See the shine!

It's the real thing.

Charlie Haden And Michael Brecker's CD Shrink Wrap

ITEM: Shrink wrap of Charlie Haden and Michael Brecker's American Dreams CD

CONDITION: Torn, but the whole thing is there.

Comes with holographic security sticker

USABILITY: Don't expect to shrink wrap a CD anymore; otherwise has various uses, limited only by your imagination.

PRICE: RM20

THE STORY: I just bought the CD, because I love Charlie Haden's stuff. The album is like the companion CD to Beyond The Missouri Sky, which he did with Pat Metheny. Because it's such an important piece of musical work, I guess the shrink wrap that protected the CD and its case must be pretty important too. A must-have for all music lovers!

Security sticker guarantees that the CD was certified original!

It says "Imported," which means this shrink wrap did not protect just any CD. It was an imported CD.

Really Big Stick

ITEM: Multi-purpose stick

LENGTH: 32 inches

CONDITION: As usual, dusty. But good. Strong, sturdy.

MATERIAL: Unknown. Looks weird.

ORIGIN: Unknown

USABILITY: 100% guaranteed. But depends on what you use it for. Good as a simple weapon or a walking/trekking stick. Also an effective anti-rabid dog implement. Can crack coconuts. Durians maybe not.

PRICE: RM350

THE STORY: Back when my father was on the regular Rukun Tetangga neighbourhood watch, this was his weapon of choice. He swears by it. Once in a while, when Bible sellers or broucher-wielding, free-gift peddlers come by, I just swing it in their general direction and they mostly get the hint. Very useful. And you know what they say, "speak softly but carry a big stick."

NOTE: Please don't make jokes about the owner compensating for some inadequacy.

Hardly Used Gel Wax

ITEM: Wella Design Shine Gel Wax

WEIGHT: 75g

INGREDIENTS: Water, PEG-25 hydrogenated castor oil, paraffinum liquidum, triceteareth-4 phosphate, butylene glycol, fragrance, betaine, glycerin, benzophenone-4, mica, iodopropinyl butylcarbamate, CI 77891, tin oxide, CI 60730, CI 42090.

GUARANTEED NO MELAMINE.

CONDITION: Like new, hardly used. Container a bit dusty at the top.

USABILITY: Should be 100% or thereabouts. But caveat emptor.

PRICE: RM15

THE STORY: These Wella stuff are bloody expensive, I can tell you. I bought this because there was the word "wax" on the container. Turned out my hair's too heavy for this stuff. Doesn't hold. It's manufactured in Australia. Must be good, right? I don't think there's an expiry date, although I don't know what that number is at the bottom of the container (see pic below). Buy and use at your own risk.

Almost 100% full! Worth your every coinage!

Don't worry about that number. I'm sure it's nothing.

COLLECTORS' ITEM! Everest "Quick Cool" Mug

ITEM: National Geographic's Surviving Everest "Quick Cool" Mug

CONDITION: Dusty cardboard cover and plastic keep case. But clean, brand new mug.

USABILITY: Haven't tried freezing it in a fridge. So, no guarantee, but should work well. "For the perfect cold drink at anytime! No need to add ice!"

PRICE: Up for bidding. Please leave bids in comments.

THE STORY: I almost didn't want to put this up for sale. This is a nice premium item for the promotion of the National Geographic special programme, Surviving Everest, about how Sir Edmund Hilary's son went up the summit following his father's pioneering path. So even if you don't get the Everest experience, at least you get the same icy cold feeling with this mug. I think.

Cover Without A Book

ITEM:
Dust jacket of a hardcover book titled The Virago Book Of Ghost Stories

DIMENSIONS: 16cm X 20cm

CONDITION: A little dusty, flattened. Some minor creases.

USABILITY: Can still wrap a book, provided the book is of the correct size.

PRICE: RM10

THE STORY: I'm a collector of ghost and horror stories. I wandered aimlessly into Borders, The Curve, one weekend, and mindlessly bought what I thought would be a good read on a lazy, rainy night. Then, I left the book lying around and completely forgot about it. Now, I don't even remember how the cover was separated from the book, nor do I remember where the book is anymore.

Old Rotted Nikon Compact Film Camera

ITEM:
Nikon EF400SV compact film camera
CONDITION: Dusty, rotting, rusted. Alkaline batteries still inside, leaked and rusted. Lens still looks clean because of protective lid.

Comes with keep case, also dusty and old.

USABILITY: Uncertain, no guarantee

ORIGINAL PRICE: RM600
SELLING PRICE: RM100

THE STORY: Here's a piece of antiquity. No, serious. I bought this Nikon EF400SV compact film camera in 2001, and after using it for a few months, left it in its soft case for years. Until the other day, I decided to open it up, and behold, the alkaline batteries were still in the camera, and had leaked, rusted and made the whole camera sticky and gooey.

This camera has followed me to Toronto, Canada, Koh Samui, Thailand, and Taipei, Taiwan.

Batteries included!
